
Deborah L Schnitzer– LCSW & Trauma Specialist
Founder of Center for Change
Deborah is a practicing, licensed clinical social worker. She started her work as a social worker in Niagara Falls and branched out through both Erie and Niagara Counties. She has worked in direct practice, as a clinical supervisor, and an adjunct Social Work instructor at Buffalo State College, and at the University at Buffalo’s School of Social Work. In addition, she has worked as a field educator for Social Work interns. Deborah was the Domestic Violence Coordinator & Intervention Service Coordinator for the YWCA, where she facilitated many classes, including the “Kid Strong” group for children that witnessed domestic violence. Deborah has also worked as an advocate for victims of domestic violence in the courts.
Deborah is dedicated to her clients and works diligently with each client. She has worked as an individual and family counselor at City Gate, Catholic Charities, The Heart & Soul Soup Kitchen, and The YWCA of the Tonawanda’s.
Throughout her career, Deborah has earned a variety of awards from the community and various organizations. Including: The National Association of Social Workers’ Student Award, The Outstanding Social Work Student Award; the YWCA of the Tonawanda’s, Employee of the Year; the YWCA of the Tonawanda’s, Woman of the Year; University at Buffalo, School of Social Works’ Outstanding Field Educator of the Year.
Seeing a need in the community, she opened Center for Change in 2015. Her goal was to create a space for people to learn from their past, understand their present, and take charge of their future. Center for Change offers private counseling as well as couples & family counseling. In addition, parenting classes and personal growth classes are also available. The Center For Change offers retreats for small groups. Deborah also offers Corporate Team Building retreats or sessions.
